Avoyelles lowest in COVID positive rate, in bottom half of parishes in vaccination rate

As of Monday, Avoyelles Parish had the lowest COVID-positive rate in the state, according to the online COVID Act Now organization that monitors various COVID indicators in communities around the nation.
As of that report, Avoyelles was recording a 0.2 percent positive rate, the same as East Feliciana Parish.
For the second straight report on Monday, Avoyelles had no net gain of new COVID cases, leaving the parish's pandemic totals on Monday at 4,334 cases and 123 deaths -- the same as they were in the Thursday (June 17) update from the Louisiana Department of Health.
Avoyelles is still in the bottom half of the state in terms of vaccination rate. Perhaps the lottery campaign, which will award a $1 million grand prize and weekly $100,000 cash awards and scholarships in July, will change that. Registration for the first weekly drawing on July 9 opened at noon today. Only state residents who have received at least one COVID vaccination are eligible for the drawings.
The latest numbers from the state show Avoyelles with 27.38 percent of its population fully immunized against COVID and 30.36 percent having taken at least one dose. There were about 1,220 parish residents who had yet to take their second dose of the two-shot vaccine from Pfizer or Moderna.
