Dr. Jim Guillory is running for the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education without receiving any donations.

Guillory, of Plaucheville, is in a four-way race for the District 8 seat, which is a minority district. The incumbent, Linda Johnson of Baton Rouge, did not seek reelection.

Guillory says his agenda is to bring a different perspective to the board. To that end he is not accepting campaign donations, instead funding his campaign entirely out of pocket.

"My motivation is to be an advocate for children having opportunities to obtain the best education possible without having an underlying agenda," Guillory said. "Thus, my reason for personally absorbing the costs of this campaign."

Guillory is a former Avoyelles Parish School Board member, and is also a medical specialist in the field of hearing.

Also running for the seat are attorney Domoine Rutledge, who is currently serving as the East Baton Rouge Parish school system's general counsel, Baton Rouge social worker Carolyn Hill and Baton Rouge educator Russell Armstrong.
