The USA today is reporting that officials with the Canadian company that created the post-Katrina village Canadaville (Magnaville) in Simmesport are looking into building a crude oil refinery near the small Avoyelles Parish town that sits on the Atchafalaya River. The Alexandria Town Talk printed parts of Aug. 11 letter from Gov. Bobby Jindal which offers support for the idea.

Such a plant would require years of permits and legislative backing, and would create hundeds of jobs. Canadville was created by Magna International after Hurricane Katrina in an effort to give New Orleans refugees a new working enviroment to live. Several homes for the center were established on a thousand acre tract just south of Simmesport.
