Lawyer, LSU benefactor

BATON ROUGE – Services will be Tuesday for lawyer and noted LSU supporter Jerry McKernan. He died April 20 at age 75.

He attended LSU on a basketball scholarship and held a law degree from Tulane. He served on the board of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

He served on the LSU Board of Supervisors, was chairman of the LSU Athletic Committee and received several university honors, including College of Education Philanthropist of the Year in 2012. He was active in the Louisiana Democratic Party and a national committeeman.

Survivors include his wife Diane and five children.

Arrangements are by Resthaven.

Silver Star holder

DENHAM SPRINGS– Services will be Wednesday for decorated three-war veteran Thomas Priester. He died April 22 at age 79.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War (two tours). He retired as a 101st Airborne Special Forces Ranger. He held two Purple Hearts, three Presidential Citations for Valor and the Silver Star.

Survivors include his wife Winnie, two sons and a daughter.

Arrangements are by Seale.

Former POW, boxing champ

SCOTT – Services for Veterans Hall of Fame member Frank Scimeca were Saturday. He died April 14 at age 89.

He was a decorated veteran of World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany for 14 months. He was a four-time state boxing champion while attending Istrouma High School.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter.

Arrangements were by Greenoaks, Baton Rouge.

Former prep football star

LAFAYETTE – Services for former high school football record holder Kevin “Juice” Judice are Monday. He died April 19 at age 54.

He was a noted football running back for Comeaux HIgh and was all-state for three years. he held the state high school rushing record for more than a decade.

Survivors include his mother and two daughters.

Arrangements were by Martin & Castille.

Louisiana bishop

BATON ROUGE – Services for Pentecostal Bishop Richard Allmon, Sr. will be Monday. He died April 15 at age 57.

He was Presbyter-at-Large on the United Pentecostal Church International-Louisiana District Board and pastor of Full Gospel United Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include his wife Lois, seven sons and five daughters.

Long-time teacher

WICHITA, Kan. – Services for Sister Bernadette Daigle, long-time Sisters of St. Joseph teacher, will be Monday in Baton Roue, La. She died April 18 age age 103.

She taught at schools in New Orleans and Baton Rouge before becoming floor supervisor of a residence for women in Cincinnati, Ohio. She returned to New Orleans and worked a convent on Mirabeau Avenue for 30 years before Hurricane Katrina. She then moved to a Wichita convent.

Retired Dept. of Labor official

HAMMOND – Services for long-time Department of Labor official Rico Masaracchia will be Tuesday. He died April 19 at age 85.

He was with the state Department of Labor for 40 years, retiring as deputy undersecretary. He was a long-time board member of the Hammond Regional Airport.

Survivors include his wife Mary, two sons and three daughters.

Arrangements are by Harry McKneely & Son.

Former publlc facilities manager

ALEXANDRIA – Services are Monday for former coliseum manager and public works director Tony D’Angelo. He died April 20 at age 94.

He was a career U.S. Navy officer. After retirement, he became Alexandria public works director, manager of the Rapides Coliseum and deputy director of the Riverside Centroplex in Baton Rouge.

Survivors include his wife Agnes and six children.
