EVERGREEN- Funeral services for Johnny E. Roy of Bunkie will take place at the Little Flower Catholic Church of Evergreen on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Edwin Rodriguez and Fr. Bartholmaw Ibe officiating. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Escude Funeral Home.

Visitations will be held at the Escude Funeral Home of Wednesday, June 27, 2012, beginning at 5 p.m. and will continue all night until the funeral service on Thursday morning. Burial services will commence at the Little Flower Cemetery of Evergreen.

In 1998, Mr. Roy was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Avoyelles Sweet Potato Association for outstanding services in the Sweet Potato Industry. He was a board member of the Avoyelles Sweet Potato Association for eight years (2002 -2010), four of those years he served as president.

He also served as a board member on the Louisiana Sweet Potato Association for eight years. He was a leader at National, State, & Parish levels in the development of the Sweet Potato Industry. Mr. Roy was also a member of the National Watermelon Association.

Johnny Roy, age 54, passed away at the Bunkie General Hospital on Sunday, June 24, 2012.

He is preceded in death by his father, Earl Roy.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Roy of Bunkie; three children, Jason Roy (Mary Adams) of Hessmer, Lucas Roy (Lauren) of Bunkie, Jackie Roy (Keith Guillot) of Hessmer; mother, Betty Roy of Hessmer; two brothers, David Roy of (Shirlene) of Hessmer, and Joey Roy of Mansura; five sisters, Cynthia Vead (Dale) of Hessmer, Celia Juneau (Rickey) of Hessmer, Lisa Mose (Neil) of Hessmer, Elizabeth Gauthier (Joey) of Mansura, and Kathy Smith (Scott) of Hessmer; one grandchild, Maggie Roy of Bunkie; 23 nieces and nephews and sixteen great-nieces and great-nephews.
