Sure, this is a huge high school rivalry football game for many reasons between both perspective schools, with the district championship on the line as well as bragging rights for the whole parish. Both teams come in undefeated in district play, and what more can be said about Avoyelles rising from the bottomless pit of this district to an amazing 9-0, mark on the year.

But putting the subject of the game aside for a minute, I wanted to point out for me what this game truly means.

With all the corruption, violence and stress from a failing economy thats in our world, here's an opportunity for a parish community to come together in a single gathering and spend a quality three hours together. It's a chance even if only for a little while to put all the differences between people aside, to voice support the two schools, teams, players and coaches involved. I think that its amazing that through hard work and dedication by these schools that this has created this rare and rewarding opportunity.

Even though one teams will win that game on Friday night, everyone member of both teams are winners. And because we as a community are there in a united show of support, tells a lot about the pride that we share in the accomplishments of those young men on the field, that have fought through the season to get where they are today.

See you at the only place to be on Friday night. It's the Avoyelles Parish Community meeting, live and in color at Marksville high school.
