#16 Marksville to take on #1 Farmerville in round two of the LSHAA playoffs

This Friday night the Tigers of Marksville (8-3) take to the road to face the Farmers (10-1) of Union Parish, in the LHSAA playoffs, in what can described as a modern day 'David vs's Goliath' match up. Doc Elliot Stadium will be the venue of this second round clash, between the Tigers and Farmers.

The Farmers coached by Joe Spatafora, will enter this contest as the #1 team in classification 3-A and with good reason. Farmerville plays in one of the states toughest districts (2-3-A) that features teams such as Rayville (5-6) and Richwood (7-4). After finishing undefeated in district competition here in 2011, the Farmers opened the playoffs with a closely contested win over #32 seeded East Feliciana, by a score of 28-26.

The home standing Farmers have averaged 271 yards rushing a game this season, and right at 100 yards through the air ways. Farmerville has an experienced offensive line that has led the way to them averaging right at 36 points per game. Farmerville has played a very solid schedule in 2011' and comes in power rated at #33.

The Tigers (8-3) from Avoyelles Parish will counter with a productive rushing attack that has averaged 316 yards a contest. Marksville, like the Farmers averages 36 points per game. The Tigers coached by JT Dunbar have 4 wins on the season against teams with 'winning records', which should prepare them for this playoff contest, that will feature outstanding coaching and athletes all over the field. Included in the Tigers schedule in 2011 was an impressive win over Eunice (9-2) by a score of 42-17. The Eunice Bobcats are currently the #8 ranked team in class 3-A. The Tigers look to their skilled line play and to quaterback Jake Dunbar and the shifty running of running back Peyton Dunbar, to spark the Tigers charge.

The Farmers of Farmerville will bring to the contest a unique combination of size and power, while the Tigers will carry in shiftiness, finesse and speed. These are teams with different philosphies, but one common goal. This should be great game in Union Parish, with the victor advancing to take on the winner of the #8 Eunice and #9 ranked Bulldogs of Jennings.
