Abbeville, the largest city in the parish, had a five percent increase in collection from a year ago. The city collected $287,000 in May or $15,000 more than a year ago.
Erath collected just over $1,000 more than last year. The town collected $20,600 compared to $19,500 the year before.
Kaplan also had a positive growth in sales tax collection. The city collected $49,600 in May or about $2,000 more than a year ago.
The news, however, was not so good for Gueydan, Delcambre and Maurice. All three saw a decrease in revenue.
Gueydan had the biggest decrease in collection. The town’s sales tax collection was $13,000, (a decrease of $2,000).
Delcambre collected $13,500 - five percent less (minus $1,000) in May.
Maurice collected $38,500 in May, which was $400 less than last year.
The School Board, the Police Jury and Sheriff’s Department stayed the same in collections for the month of May.
The School Board collected $645,5000, Police Jury collected $968,000 and the Sheriff’s Department collected $480,000.
The Kaplan Hospital Service District 1 had a 15 percent drop in collections for May. The district collected $103,000 or about $20,000 less than last year.
The Vermilion Parish Tourist Commission also had a decrease in sales tax collections for May.
The commission collected $10,500 or $600 less than a year ago.
