St. Landry deputy shot at on I-49 in Whiteville

A deputy in St. Landry Parish was shot at but not hit after conducting a routine traffic stop on Interstate 49. It happened at exit 40, at LA 29 and I-49, on Wednesday, May 23, around late morning or noon.

The deputy followed the suspect after fleeing toward a truck stop casino. The driver fired two shots at the deputy. The deputy returned fire. No injuries have been reported.

The investigation has been turned over to State Police and the deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave. Everyone involved has been taken into custody.
