The following is a list of Christmas events in Avoyelles Parish happening this week:

December 2

Fox Performing Arts Christmas Concert

The Fox Performing Arts Center will bring in the Christmas season with a Christmas concert on Thursday, December 2 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the door. For more information call 253-8105.

December 3 & 4

Christmas Madrigal Dinner at AHS

The second annual Christmas Madrigal Dinner in the restored auditorium of Avoyelles High School is set for Friday, December 3 and Saturday, December 4 at 7 p.m.

A unique and unforgettable Renaissance festivity awaits participants from the steaming wassail drink served to shake the evening chill to the elegant five course meal served with cantico (with song) provided by the Avoyelles Men's Choir and the St. Cecilia Chorale.

The AHS theatre arts troupe of the "Kings Players" will join the Royal Court and present a traditional play that dates back to the time of classic European literature. The scenes of the play are woven among the courses of the meal and set up the message of the Christmas season.

Reservations are required. Call Avoyelles High School at 985-2361 for reservations. Tickets are $25 per person.

December 4-

Mansura Christmas Parade

The Mansura Chamber of Commerce and the town of Mansura will be hosting the 2010 Mansura Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 4 at 1 p.m. Grand marshal for this year’s parade will be Julia Boston.

Entries may include, but are not limited to: bands, marching groups, dance troupes, floats, cars, trucks, trailers, tractors, motorcycles, bicycles, four wheelers, golf carts, horses, etc. Interested individuals, groups or for questions regarding the parade call Darla Borden at 964-5232 or call the Mansura Town Hall at 964-2152.

Plaucheville Christmas Parade

The village of Plaucheville will host its annual Christmas parade on Sunday, December 4. Parade line up will be on Coleman’s Lane beginning at 12 noon. The parade will follow shortly after line up. For more information call 922-3111.

December 4 & 5-

Simmesport “Cajun Christmas” and Parade

The town of Simmesport, the Simmesport Chamber of Commerce and Dupont’s Fireworks will host “Cajun Christmas on the Atchafalaya,” December 4 and 5. Activities will held on Saturday, December 4 at the Avoyelles Parish Port at Simmesport, located on Hwy. 105, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

A fireworks display will be held at approximately 7 p.m. Bring lawn chairs. Gumbo, soft drinks and water will be sold.

Representative Robert Johnson will be the grand marshal for the Simmesport Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 5 at 2 p.m. Line up will start at 1 p.m. using the usual parade route of Mission Drive, Laurel Street, and La. 1 to Yellow Bayou Park.

Entry forms are available at the Simmesport Town Hall. There is no entry fee. Call Carla Moulard at 941-2493.

December 5-

Angels Sing in Fifth Ward

Start the Christmas season out on a merry, musical note by attending the Angel's Sing Concert on Sunday, December 5 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1315 Eggbend Road, Fifth Ward at 1:30 pm.  The program will feature local choirs and soloists performing favorite Christmas songs. The event is sponsored by the Avoyelles Arts Council and is free to the public. To register a soloist or choir, contact Allison Ravare-Augustine at 264-9392 or 308-2360.

Carlow Choir in Cottonport

St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church, located at 820 Front Street in Cottonport, will present the “Carlow Choir Christmas Concert” on Sunday, December 5 at 2:30 p.m.

The choir is directed by John DeChiaro. It is a vocal ensemble made up of over 165 members from Mississippi and Louisiana. The choir has performed in concert in both states and has traveled to Italy to perform for Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican. The group will soon release its first CD entitled “Reflections of the Heart.” For more information call 876-3681.
