A thirteen-year-old child has died after being struck by a car as she was attempting to cross a rural highway.
Troop F Troopers responded to the crash at about 5:30 pm on January 29, 2011. The investigation revealed that a 2010 Toyota Corolla was traveling north on LA 140 (about 2 miles east of US 425) when a 13-year-old female child attempted to cross the road and walked into the path of the Toyota. The driver of the Toyota was unable to avoid hitting the child.
The child, identified as Elizabeth Wilkerson (13yoa) from Bastrop, was transported to Morehouse General Hospital, but died as a result of her injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as 74-year-old Mary Hankins from Bastrop, was not injured in the crash.
No citations were issued in the crash and impairment was not a factor.
