Starks 75, Plainview 38

HAMMOND -- Ciara Bussell scored 24 points on 8 of 13 three-point field goals, to lead Starks to a 75-38 win over Plainview on Saturday and the Class C championship at the 2011 Louisiana High School Athletic Association's Ladies' Top 28 Tournament.

Starks sank 17 of 30 three-point baskets as Bussell was named the Outstanding Player of the game played at the University Center at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Also scoring in double figures for Starks, 34-7, were Baleigh Bussell; with 19 points; Liegha Clark, 15 points; Kaci Willis, 14 points; and Emily Ingalls, 10 points. Plainview, 28-10, was led by Skyler Chenevert with 12. Breanne Webb had a game-high 12 rebounds.

Starks held a 24-point lead to open the third quarter at 38-14, and pushed it to 37 at 59-22 on Ciara Bussell's third consective three-point field goal. Plainview got no closer than 61-30 on Chenevert's layup at the end of the quarter.

Starks built its halftime lead by sinking 11 three-point baskets in the first half. All of its field goals in the second quarter were from three-point range. Ciara Bussell and Clark each had four and Baleigh Bussell had three from three-point range in the first half.

Plainview's leading scorer, Chenevert, averaging 25.4 points a game, was held scoreless in the first quarter and managed only two baskets and two free throws to lead Plainview with six points in the first half.

Starks won its first state championship since winning the Class B title in 1987. Plainview won its first title in Class C in 2010.
