Dear Editor:



I was "surfing the net" this morning March 19, 2011, and noticed that a small island of Japan, home to only 100 people, survived the tsunami and subsequent earthquake(magnitude 8.9 or as another source reported, magnitude 9.0). I read this in "The Lookout", a Yahoo News blog. The official name of this little island is Tashirojima or as it is commonly referred to as....Get Ready! Drum Roll Please! "Cat Island". The human inhabitants of the island feed stray cats and the cats outnumber the human inhabitants. The people on "Cat Island" love the cats immensely. And as a Christian, I do not subscribe to their affection which has developed to the point of actually "enshrineing" the cats. I believe that the God I believe in and worship in the Catholic Church spared these humble creatures. Stray cats, are simply that, lovable innocent beings, created by the God, the Father, the Almighty who I worship, to reiterate, in the Catholic Church.

To move on to another topic:

I have it on good authority that it is, in fact, the animal control officer of Marksville, under orders from her superiors, in view of neighbors' complaints who placed those horrid traps on my property. I think it is possible to weigh the effects of emotional pain and crippling loss brought to one person through the insistance of others who claim they are justified in bringing about emotional pain to one person because they are experiencing discomfort.

The only official complaint I am aware of that has been documented is that the cats on my property scratched the car of the neighbor. First of all, how can this neighbor prove that it was any of the cats on my property who scratched her car?

Second of all, I know for a fact that a cat, under normal circumstances, will not scratch a car. I have owned cars in the past for years and know that cats do not scratch cars. I believe that the neighbor is mistaken and I think it is common knowledge that car scratches can arise from any number of sources.

I am pleading with Marksville to leave me and my cats alone. And Derrick Whittington, attorney for Marksville, has still not responded to my letter in which I requested clarification as to where Marksville has relocated my cats.
