What has us worried in avoyelles is the same thing that happened in'73. the water at three rivers was so high that the red river couldn't drain into the atchafalaya like usual causing flooding in northern avoyelles.

The waters reached to top of the fuse plug levee for the west atchafalaya floodway. this floodway has never been used before. and we are concerned if the levees will hold.

In '27 there was 6 feet of water where i live and im 4 miles away from the atchafalaya. and the prediction 5 feet higher than '27 at old river. but i know that we have higher levees and the control structure that we didn't have in '27 that will make the river levels higher

Avoyelles would be greatly affected. all of the northeastern portion of avoyelles and 3 miles west of the atchafalya down the whole eastern part of the parish(about 1/3 of the parish) is a floodway.
