LAFAYETTE – About 1,000 Acadian Ambulance employees and another 1,000 invited guests will hear former President George W. Bush speak at the company's annual paramedic luncheon this month.

Company president Richard Zuschlag said the luncheon will be held May 24 at the Cajundome. Attendance is by invitation only.

The company, which started with two ambulances and eight employees 40 years ago now has about 3,500 on the payroll and about 400 ambulances.

In 2006, former President George H.W. Bush spoke at the luncheon. Last year, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was the keynote speaker.
