GRETNA- James Brown, Jr., age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. Mr. Brown was born in Simmesport to the late James Brown, Sr. and Emma Lou Calliham Brown on June 9, 1924. Mr. Brown was a native of New Orleans.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Veal Brown; five children, James, III (Jacqueline), Jerome (Patrice), Tarvis (Ocedra), Gerald Brown and Toyce (former husband, James, Jr.) Carroll; one daughter-in-law, Dahlre Brown; two devoted nephews, Grant Jones, Jr. and Phillip Flemings; one brother, Otis (Jean) Brown; one sister, Verna B. Wills; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.; two sisters-in-law, Toyce Humphrey and Evelyn Veal; one brother-in-law, Sherman (Louvenia) Veal; four godchildren, Darlene Jones, Latoya Buckner, Jowan Banks and Meri Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Brown; two sisters, Helen B. Fleming and Margie Mae Brown; four brothers, Cleveland, Willie, Lawrence and Clarence Brown.
Fusion Masonic Order #23 Ceremony was held at at 10 a.m. and Interment was in Resthaven Cemetery in New Orleans. Arrangements were under the direction of Davis Mortuary Services of Gretna.
