A Simmesport man was arrested following a joint drug investigation by the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division and the Simmesport Police Department.

According to Sheriff Doug Anderson, the investigation into illegal narcotics sales led them to the residence of Robert Hills, 27, of Simmesport. Anderson said deputies located 1.5 ounces of suspected powder cocaine and 1.5 pounds of suspected marijuana. Anderson said the drugs carried a street value of nearly $3,500.

Hills was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute. He was placed in the Avoyelles jail under a $45,000 bond.
