Bunkie editor elected officer of LPA

Bunkie Record Garland Forman has been elected as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Louisiana Press Assocation.

Forman was elected at the group's convention at the Paragon Saturday. Randy DeCuir, publisher of the Bunkie Record, made the motion to accept Foreman and the rest of the nominating committee's recommendations at the annual stockholder's meeting of the LPA.

Forman has been editor of the Bunkie Record since 1989, and also has been part of the editorial staff of the Avoyelles Journal, Marksville Weekly News and Avoyelletoday.com.

Other officers elected were: President Noris Babin, publisher of the Plaquemines Gazette; President-Elect Thomas B. Shearman III, Publisher of the American Press (Lake Charles),

Elected to the board for a three-year term were Steve Colwell, General Manager NTN Media, flagship for the group, The Natchitoches Times, Darrell Guillory, Publisher, The Eunice News, Church Point News; Chief Operating Officer, Louisiana State Newspapers, and Dona H. Smith, Publisher, Jennings Daily News.

Elected to the board for a one-year term was H. Miles Forrest, Publisher, The Courier (Houma) and The Daily Comet (Thibodaux).



Continuing to serve on the board will be: Josh Beavers, Publisher of Minden Press-Herald, David Francis, Business Manager of The Times-Picayune (New Orleans), Renette Hall, Publisher of The Louisiana Weekly (New Orleans), Sam Hanna, Jr. of Publisher, The Ouachita Citizen (West Monroe) and David Petty, Publisher of The News-Star (Monroe) and immediate past-president Sandy Cunningham, Publisher of L’Observateur (LaPlace).



David Petty, News-Star (Monroe) and Jerry Pierce, Natchitoches Times were inducted into the 50 Year Club.
