“LONG JOURNEY HOME”
The Ancestry of the Bret, Coco, Drapeau, Goudeau, Gremillon and Tassin Families in France
By Cathy Lemoine Sturgell
Avoyelles and Pointe Coupee history lovers will appreciate the new information in this book which brings the European roots of two local families back several more generations than has ever been known before.
The book contains newly discovered, never-before published and fully documented DIRECT lineages of these families including approximately 175 years of the (Dominique) Coco and (Louis) Gremillon families in their native regions. The Gremillions are from Courcival between Paris and Normandy and the Cocos are from the Italian/French border area.
It also contains baptismal records of all (Louis) Bret children as well as the parentage of Louis Bret and his wife, Elizabeth Roy.
In addition to the discovery of new generations of the Goudeau, Drapeau and Tassin families, the book also contains fascinating info uncovered about the ‘occupation’ of the direct Tassin ancestor of many in Avoyelles- Marie Le Roy.
Each chapter begins with the Louisiana progenitor of one of these families and contains copies of the Catholic sacramental records used to establish lineage.
Cathy Lemoine Sturgell's love of Avoyelles genealogy is evident in her detailed and well documented work. Her father was a Lemoine from Lemoine Lane in Borodino and her mother was a Mayeux from Bordelonville.
