The first well targeting the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale reached its total depth today, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

As of August 5, 2012, drilling of Dupuy No. 1 at Brouillette is recorded as reaching total depth of 11,950 feet. That puts the hopes of landowners in the area at just a little over two miles below the ground of the community which sits on Red River.

That is the depth of the first pilot well. A second drilling rig is planned to drill the second phase of the well, with a horizontal leg.

The drilling began after the permit was issued June 18. Intermediate casing was run as of July 24 and cutting of cores at 11,440 feet occurred on July 30.
