Taking a break from district play, the St. Edmund Lady Jays added a win, a loss and a tie in battles against Pine Prairie and Crowley over the weekend.
Playing their third game in a row, the Lady Jays dropped a 6-3 decision to Pine Prairie Friday night.
The Lady Panthers exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of three Lady Jay errors to load the bases and bring runners home.
The Lady Jays narrowed the point gap in the top of the fourth with two runs.
St. Eds added another run in the top of the sixth, cutting Pine Prairie’s lead to 5-3.
But the Lady Panthers added an insurance run in the second half, and silenced the Lady Jays’ bats in the last inning.
In Saturday’s doubleheader against Crowley, St. Eds scored a 10-run shutout in the opener but settled for a 1-1 tie in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Lady Jays broke open the first inning with eight runs.
St. Ed’s loaded the bases and drove home runner after runner.
Then with one runner on base, Ashlyn Deaville capped off scoring with a home run on a 0-1 count.
The Lady Jays added two more runs in the top of the third inning, when Leah Andrus reached on an error to drive home one run, followed by Caroline Aguillard’s base hit.
Crowley came back stronger in the nightcap, holding St. Eds’ scoreless throughout the five-inning game and forcing an extra inning.
With Simone Guillory on second under International Tiebreaker rules, the Lady Jays sacrificed to advance her to third before Deaville’s double drove her home.
But Crowley sacrificed to score one run as well before the Lady Jays were able to shut the door on Crowley for the tie.
The Lady Jays return to District 6-1A competition Tuesday at home against False River Academy.
