Man arrested for attempted murder in Abbeville

On Sunday morning, officers of the Abbeville Police Department received a “shots fired” complaint from a bar on S. Miles St. Responding officers found that there had been a fight and recovered evidence of gunfire.

Officers also located a person who had been struck on the head with a baseball bat during the altercation and had been taken to the hospital for treatment

The victim identified his attacker as being Brandon Manuel.

Manuel was located and arrested by the Abbeville Detective Division and booked into the Parish Jail on an attempted second degree murder charge.

The victim has since been moved from Abbeville General to a Lafayette Hospital and his condition at this time is unknown. The name of the victim is not being release at this time.

The Abbeville Police Department and Chief Rick Coleman, encourage any and all citizen of Abbeville to contact the police department if they have concerns of illegal activity in their neighborhood. The number to call is 893-2511 or the TIPS line at 892-6777.

Earlier in the week the APD arrested three in connection with 12 car burglaries, but have no one in connection with the house burglary that same day.

The investigation into the burglary at the Christian Service Center last month is still ongoing.

In the near future all arrests will be printed in the Abbeville Meridional.

Residents are encouraged to continue to keep a watch in their neighborhoods for suspicious persons or activities and to report such items to the Abbeville Police Department.
