A city in ruins?

Editor, The Eunice News:

Let me begin by saying that I am a resident of the City of Eunice again,

I left this city for 17 years and traveled and worked from Los Angeles to New York,

Believe me when I say, “I’ve seen it all”, or so I thought.

After a series of twists and turns I found myself back here about three years ago and I am appalled at what I’ve seen and continue to see.

This city is in ruins.

I have never seen such a division between communities and outright attacks, sometimes almost physical, upon the leaders of this city.

Our mayor was elected by the majority, again let me repeat that - our mayor was elected by the majority.

Now you rant and rave and scream and cry over things you know nothing about. Those of you who write your little letters of disdain to the editor just accentuate your ignorance.

As for the gentleman whose letter was recently published in The Daily World, forgive me for not naming names, you used the term “we the citizens” - Sir you do not speak for me nor most of whom I am aware of, so please refrain from including myself, a citizen of Eunice, in your ignorant rant.

To Donna Baltakis and Clay Menard the same applies to you as well.

If you are so against a mayoral raise then by all means hang on to the few dollars a year you pay in city taxes and shut up. Thus nothing will come out of your pockets.

As far as the mayor’s raise is concerned, you who oppose it are looking at the man and not the job.

I would bet my next year’s salary that if your job had not received a raise or even a cost-of-living adjustment in 12 years you would be raising seven kinds of hell with your boss.

However because this is an elected office you consider it to be something that “You” should decide what the salary should be. How ignorant. How immoral. How inconsiderate.

Could you raise a family on that current salary? Pay your bills? Pay your mortgage? Send your children to school and college? I didn’t think so.

So why doesn’t anyone speak up for what is right? Because you are scared, scared of what skeletons come flying from your own closets,

Well I’ve had enough and by all means send in your letters and ignorant rants, I welcome them.

Attack me, give me grief, do what you want, but this is still a democracy. Ms. Baltakis, freedom of speech is alive and well so bring it on.

However, be prepared to back up your stories or do like I did 17 years ago and get out of town.

Mark Boone
