Bill Sweeney has played Santa for the past six years in the annual Cottonport Christmas on the Bayou Parade. Originally from New Orleans, Sweeney had a brown beard that started turning white. That’s when people started calling hin “Santa.” His wife made him a suit and from there everything worked out for him to play Santa Claus.

Santa Sweeney has been to Plauchville Elementary, Head Start, St. Mary’s, Cottonport Elementary and Crowley among other opportunities. Here he was pictured recently while visiting Janell Jeansonne on Bayou Rouge, taking a break from “Ho-ho-hoing”, as he relaxed a moment a few days before Christmas. Even with his suit off, he still resembles the jolly old elf.
