Services will be Thursday for former Natchichoches mayor Robert DeBlieux, who died Sunday at age 77.

DeBlieux, a US Army veteran, was a historian, preservationist, painter, author and businessman.

During his years as mayor, he helped created the Natchitoches Historic District. He later served as assistant secretary of the Office of Cultural Development under Govs. Dave Treen and Edwin Edwards. He was also part of a Creole Symposium held in Mansura in the 1990s which offered details of the French Creole families who settled in the 1700s in Natchitoches, Avoyelles and Pointe Coupee.

Survivors include two daughters.

Arrangements are under direction of Blanchard St. Denise.
