Hessmer Mayor releases statement on water situation

The following was written by Hessmer Mayor Mark Jeansonne on the ongoing water pipe rupture situation within the town’s water system when a subcontracting team digging in the area ruptured a line. It is currently under repairs:

HESSMER RESIDENTS & WATER CUSTOMERS:
We can do better....
Due to an extreme level of harassment, one subcontractor crew for Swyft is pulling out of Hessmer.
I have tried to explain as much as I can and I have specifically noted that THE CAUSE OF broken water lines does not always have easy explanations: For example, consider the major water line break Wed. at the intersection by my home. The water pipe DID have a tracer wire. However, the device used to find it showed the pipeline at 9'. To be safe, the contractor bored at 12'. As it turned out, the water pipe was at 12' and the equipment used to detect the tracer wire failed for whatever reason! Who to blame? How much time am I going to spend pointing fingers? Well, I am not!
I just look at things differently. It's just how I see things. EVERYONE is doing their best. Yes, sometimes the Swyft crews are working too fast. Yes, there are spots of property damage that Swyft will have to remedy for the homeowners. Yes, I have found a couple of errors made by Hessmer employees, some made by Swyft .... Should I scream at them like animals?
We can do better. Progress comes at a price. Even though I have had a water filter on my home for at least 10 years, my water is just as bad as yours after a water line breach! I have had to replace water heaters and washing machines just like everyone else!
I am asking everyone to remain patient and PLEASE display civility. There is a level of decorum that we should all adhere to and yelling at workers on the side of the road just doesn't fit.
