Mr. Edwards, age 69, of Center Point, LA. passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024 in his residence in Center Point. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Neal and Gussie Luneau Edwards.

Gary, more often known simply as “Bub” or “Bubbie” to his wife, Jackie, worked for International Paper until his retirement, although his favorite job was Paw Paw. Gary spent a lot of days in the woods cruising timber and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing. He was known for rolling out a high-flying wood duck that was deemed “too high,” could catch a 6 pound bass out of a road ditch, and he would have people think he was a turkey hunter - a passion he instilled into his son as well. Gary spent many days and nights at Williams Lake Boat Landing cooking, fishing, and hunting with his dad, brother, son, son-in-law, and many other great friends over the years. He proudly started Cedar Lake Hunting Club in 1989; there wasn’t an inch of that hunting club he wasn’t familiar with. Gary also once had the finest set of deer beagles around. His favorite way to kill a deer was trotting ahead of beagle hounds. Gary was always one to make you laugh, and he had an amazing sense of humor. He was a big teddy bear and the most genuine, kind-hearted person who would give his last dollar to someone who needed it more than he did. Gary was fiercely devoted to his wife, Jackie, for 47 amazing years, and he loved his kids and grandkids more than life itself.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jacqueline Hughes Edwards; his children, Eron Edwards Gatlin (Shane) of Ruby and Neal Edwards (Nikki) of Center Point; brother, Anthony Edwards of Moncla; five grandchildren, Charlee Gatlin, Emily Tam, Jase Gatlin, Mallie Edwards, and Dylan Tam.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Neal Edwards, Shane Gatlin, Jase Gatlin, Herb McDowell, Donnie Luneau, and Dale Tyler. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Edwards and David Hughes.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Marksville.

The family would like to thank Effie Volunteer Fire Department, Acadian Ambulance Service, and the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office for their quick response and doing everything they could for Gary.
