Mrs. Delta, age 86, of Hessmer, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 17th, 2024. Delta was born in New Orleans in January 1938. She married Joseph C. Kelone, of Mansura, on June 5th, 1954, and eventually settled in Hessmer for the remainder of her life. Delta and Joseph had six children together, and she very much enjoyed cooking and caring for them. She lost her first love, but later married her second: John Morgan, of Cottonport, on April 6th, 1999; thus, her family further expanded. When she wasn’t spending quality time with those she loved or engaged in deep conversation with someone she just met, she enjoyed painting, singing gospels, and writing short stories, poems, and prayers.

The only love Delta had greater than that for her family was that for our Lord - her first passion was always her fierce love for our God and for being loved by Him. Even as a little girl, Delta chose to go to church every day. It became apparent during her childhood that she was blessed with spiritual gifts and senses.

Through her humble, compassionate, and cheerful nature, she had a special way of connecting with others. As a skilled beautician of 38 years, her time with her clients was often time spent sharing Christ. Delta ran Vacation Bible School, taught Catechism, and hosted prayer for many different groups. She founded and ran Bethany Home Ministries for over 20 years. Her home was always open to all - regardless of faith. Even in her last years living at Hessmer Nursing Home, she was known for her powerful prayers with staff and other residents.

Despite suffering with pain throughout her life, Delta never faltered in her grateful and joyful heart - always seeing the good in everyone and finding the blessings within the struggles. With her bright personality and her knack for making you laugh, she always made sure those around her felt welcomed, important, and loved. She was quick to forgive, quick to admit her faults, and quick to remind others that mistakes made could be “turned into good.”

Delta strove to be an “unblocked channel” for the Spirit of Christ and gave all glory and honor to our Lord, God. Delta was and will be remembered as a true disciple.

Delta was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Joseph C. Kelone; her first son, Michael J. Kelone; 5 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; her parents, Wallace Michel, Sr. and Aline Rachel; her sister, Deanna Allen.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 25 years, John Morgan; their children, Davy (Linda) Kelone, Kenneth (Tracy) Kelone, Tony (Missie) Kelone, Rita (Lynn) Moreau, Brian (Evie) Kelone, Kristi (Alsey) Morgan, Danielle (Rocky) Bordelon, and daughter-in-law, Lisa Kelone Tassin (wife of late Michael J. Kelone); their 97 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Patricia Michel and Wallace Michel, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, you can buy, read, and share with others this small devotional that Delta shared with so many: “God Calling: By Two Listeners.”
