Elzira “Mrs. Z” Matthews, 82, Marksville

Elzira “Mrs. Z” Matthews, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, born on
February 17, 1942, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, at the age of 82.

A service to celebrate Elzira’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 25th, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Marksville with Deacon Ken Primeaux officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery #2, Mausoleum under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Marksville.
Family and friends are invited to attend and share their memories of this remarkable woman who
brought so much light into their lives.

Elzira is survived by her children, each of whom she cherished deeply: Troy Matthews and his
fiancée, Donna; Lisa Mayeux and her husband, Robert; Melanie Vanlangendonck and her
husband, Patrick; and Ashley Lewis and her husband, Joshua. She was a proud grandmother to
Jessica Chase, Wade Matthews, Lauren Andries, Rebecca Gill, and Allison Vanlangendonck, and
a great-grandmother to Nora and Emma.

In her final moments, Elzira was greeted in the embrace of eternal peace by her beloved husband,
Andrew Matthews; her mother, Edna Tassin; her father, Wade Tassin; and her brothers, Jasper
Tassin and Rodney Tassin, who preceded her in death.

As a stay-at-home mom, Elzira dedicated her life to raising her children with love and care.
When her children were grown, she worked for ten years at Wal-Mart, where she formed lasting
friendships and made a positive impact on her colleagues and customers.

Elzira maintained lifelong friendships with Barbara Bordelon and Joan Gaspard, sharing
countless memories and adventures over the years. She enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her
family, feeding birds in her yard, and watching her favorite TV shows. Her love for pets,
especially cats and dogs, was evident to all who knew her.

The family requests visitation be held on Tuesday, June 25th, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Marksville.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Guardian Hospice and the Oaks Care
Center for their compassionate care of both Elzira and Andrew during their final years.

Elzira “Mrs. Z” Matthews will be deeply missed, but her loving spirit will live on in the hearts of
her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace.
